Perfect For
Nail techs and salons who want to add intricate, unique designs to their menu without slowing down the chair — and hobbyists who want the same effortless formula at home. Pair with acrylic powder or a builder gel base for added texture, or keep it simple over gel colour alone.
Blooming gel is a clear, thin-consistency gel that makes any gel colour dropped on top of it spread and diffuse across the nail. Applied uncured over your base colour, it creates soft-edged, watercolour-style effects like marble, florals and tortoiseshell — all without needing advanced freehand painting skills.
Regular gel polish is opaque and stays where you paint it. Blooming gel is thinner and translucent, and — crucially — is applied uncured, so any colour placed on top of it spreads naturally instead of holding a sharp line. That’s what creates the soft, blended “bloom” effect regular gel can’t replicate.
No. Top coat is cured and designed to seal and protect your finished design with a hard, glossy layer. Blooming gel is applied uncured and left wet on purpose — that’s what lets colour spread and bloom. You still need a separate top coat afterwards to seal and protect the finished nail.
Most gel colours will bloom, but results vary by pigment and consistency — highly pigmented, thinner gels tend to spread more dramatically, while thick or heavily-loaded colours bloom less. We’d always recommend testing with your usual KM gel colours first so you know exactly how each shade behaves before working on a client.
Usually it’s one of three things: the layer is too thick (thin coats bloom better), it’s picked up stray light and started curing before you added colour, or the colour gel itself is too thick to spread. Work quickly, keep coats thin, and cure only once your design is complete.
